How to SEO Your Website: DIY SEO Practices for Small Businesses

Let’s face it, SEO isn’t cheap and nor should it be. Those top spots on Google and Bing drive a lot of traffic, leads, and revenue for a business. They are like ocean front property. Those spots are valuable and they help scale businesses. It is worth it to place there but how do you do it?

Fire Source Media ranks in the Top 3 on Google for “Dallas SEO Company” and this is a very difficult term to rank for, competing against other SEO companies in Dallas. So did we do it? Here is some insight.

  1. Reverse Engineer the Competition – Don’t reinvent the wheel. Check out what your competition is doing and copy what they are doing. If what they are doing is working, there is no reason to walk around blindly. We are not saying to plagiarize but to look at the structure of their website and content, copy the structure and add your own unique content.
  2. Become an Authority – Google wants to see authority. What does that mean? You better start writing. It is time to starting writing articles that communicate your knowledge and authority on a topic. The more you demonstrate that authority the more you will rank. Google’s algorithm is excellent at both discerning what is real vs fake and also what is authoritative and what is not.
  3. Know your Web Development Fundamentals – From H1 titles, Meta Titles and Description, to content, it is time to start leanring what exactly the Google engine likes to read (and so do your users) and marry to two into a perfect mix of technical and editorial content.
